Went for a bit of a drive out west with Josh Fountain and Blake Reedman to a small town called ‘Bell‘, which is a short trip from Dalby, Qld. There’s not much to do out there, but for a town the size it is, the park is actually half decent when compared to the standard ‘kit’ skateparks that all of the small towns seem to be getting these days. We stayed for a couple of hours and got a few shots, so it was a pretty fun session.
Had a bit of an afternoon with a few mates in Brisbane and walked almost the length of the city, so I think it’s time I got myself back on two wheels again so I can keep up. Jerry got a few tricks done after security kicked us out of one spot, and I snapped a few indie kid / hipster pics along the way.
I’ve been shooting since about 2003 and in most situations, I still don’t call myself a photographer as such [laughter]. It’s not my full time occupation, but more of a serious weekend hobby when the right situations allow me to shoot. When I first started out, there was plenty to take in. Which gear to buy, is ‘X’ lens compatible with ‘Y’ camera, where do I even buy this stuff, and so on. Sometimes I’d come across articles in magazines and on the internet of other photographers that would share what was in their bag and I’d study it like it was written law. It was even a bonus when they showed photos they’d taken and the gear they had used. It often surprised me to discover that a lot of it was done with very affordable equipment. So, if it’s of any help to anyone starting out, here’s what’s in my bag.
Recently the Slay the Rails jam went down in Melbourne. Good old house mates Nick and Jerry were invited to attend.
I spotted this vid over on the FocalPoint site from the night. Looks like everyone had an amazing time and alot of good shit went down!
Enjoy!
A short time ago when I was down in Brisbane, we were shooting Vocko do a gap down some stairs. After we had finished, some guys in suits came up to us and told us about how they had just had a wedding across the street. They asked us if it was possible to bring their wedding party over and get the guys to do some tricks in the background for their photographer. Alex hopped a rail in the background a few times and I think the bride and groom were pretty stoked to have something random like that for their photos.
